PHOTOS: First day of courthouse shooting trial

Jury selection in the much-delayed trial of accused courthouse killer Brian Nichols got underway Thursday at the Fulton County courthouse, a day after Nichols’ attorneys made it official that they will use an insanity defense. Superior Court Judge James Bodiford, the second judge to preside over the case, opened the proceedings by speaking to potential jurors about 10:05 a.m.. “This is an unusual case because you’ve been called in on several occasions,” Bodiford told them, alluding to the delays in selection. Bodiford also said he will not sequester the jury during the trial. (All photos by John Spink/AJC/POOL)
