PHOTOS: Red Mass 2008

Lawyers and judges marked the beginning of the new judicial year with the annual Red Mass celebration on Thursday.

The Atlanta Chapter of the St. Thomas More Society, an organization of Catholic lawyers, hosted the event at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atlanta.

Celebrated by Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the event honored retiring Georgia Court of Appeals Judge John H. Ruffin Jr.; Douglas B. Ammar, executive director of the Georgia Justice Project; and William J. Brennan, director of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society’s “Home Defense” Program.

A luncheon at the Capital City Club followed the service.
