TELL US WHAT YOU THINK: Judges grumble about more cuts

Judges and lawyers from across the state gathered in Atlanta on Friday to bemoan the devastating effects budget cuts are having on Georgia’s judicial system. But, at the conclusion of the four-hour meeting, Sen. Preston W. Smith, chairman of the Senate subcommittee with oversight of the judicial branch’s budget, told the group that deep spending cuts would again be made when the General Assembly convenes in January. Smith emphasized that all segments of state government are facing deep cuts, from schools to Medicaid to prisons. (For a related story, check out “Judges grumble about more cuts.”)

What do you think about the budget situation? Leave a response below. We may publish some responses in our print edition.

Not all the Court of Appeals judges are taking furlough days as other state employees. Judges are no different than non-judges. More cuts should be made for that part of the judicial system.
