Judges and lawyers from across the state gathered in Atlanta on Friday to bemoan the devastating effects budget cuts are having on Georgia’s judicial system. Smith, chairman of the Senate subcommittee with oversight of the judicial branch’s budget, told the group that deep spending cuts would again be made when the General Assembly convenes in January. Smith emphasized that all segments of state government are facing deep cuts, from schools to Medicaid to prisons. (For a related story, check out “Judges grumble about more cuts.”)
