VIDEO: Judge Doss opens court with prayer

Judge Oliver H. “Harry” Doss Jr. on Nov. 6 announced that he would resign his post on the Appalachian Judicial Circuit Superior Court. In his letter to Gov. Sonny Perdue, Doss said an investigator for the Judicial Qualifications Commission was “openly ridiculing” his judicial service, including the judge’s practice “of opening each new term of court with a non-denominational prayer invoking divine guidance on the judicial work to be carried out during the term.”

Last month Doss allowed the Daily Report to videorecord his day in court, including the prayer.
